Video of the Week – 1/13/2011

We have a new arrival here in India! One of Jarrett and I’s college roommates at Western, Ryan Abbott arrived in Hyderabad at 3:20AM last friday. We are stoked for his arrival and he is a breathe of fresh air. There is something remarkable, refreshing and profound in watching someone experience a different culture for the first time and seeing their reactions to whatever it maybe a family of 5 on a motorcycle, dogs sleeping in the middle of a busy road or men relieving themselves on the street. It reopens your eyes to something that you have been acculturated to.

That being said, Ryan decided to pull out his guitar while Jory was getting a shave at the barber shop and many Indians joined… it was pretty funny! I think about 100 pictures were taken of the white boy…

It is crazy to think that we only have a month and a half left here in India and we are starting to realize how much we will miss the teachers and kids once we have left.

  2. Grandma & Grandpa Hitzemann

    Hi Grandsons,
Your mom does a good job keeping us posted on you two. We enjoy your video’s too. What an experience for you both. Yes you will miss all your new friends and they will miss you. Soon you will be in a different world again. We pray for good futures for Jarrett and Jory who we love very much.
    May God Bless You,
    Grandma and Granpa Hitzemann
P.S. It has been 25 years since I was on a short term mission trip in the jungles of Bolivia and I will never forget it.

  3. Hi! So I’m part of that team of Americans you guys ran into that day at John Babu’s house. I was checking out the website for OFI and came across your blog. Funny to see the video of you playing guitar after you had told us the story of how you got to John’s house.

It’s really exciting to see what you and your organization have been doing for the people in these slums, and our team will be praying for you back here in the US. God bless
